gratuitous racing: supercar vs. fighter jet
2009 August 9
Do you remember when the guys from BBC’s Top Gear tried to build a space shuttle out of a cheap three wheeled car? Well, they do a lot of fun stuff on their show, including bizarre races you wouldn’t see anywhere else, and this contest between a Bugatti Veyron and a Eurofighter Typhoon is my all time favorite.
This is what happens when you take three people passionate about cars, give them an insane budget, a private racetrack, a retired, masked Formula 1 driver and let them have at it. If you’re a TV executive, take note. Cars aren’t just a means for getting from home to work and vice versa. They can also be fun, flashy and a test of your coordination.

Greg- noticed you live in Columbus. Are you a fellow OSU Buckeye??
Actually no, I’m not. I went to a different college. But if it’s any consolation, quite a few of my friends went to OSU and I follow the football team’s seasons.
How dare you encourage these carbon criminals!
/sarcasm
But seriously, my favorite segments are probably Jeremy in the P50 and the slow-off among various “choice” rides from the Soviet Union and former Eastern Bloc…
(and the ep where they drive thru the south in cheap beaters is scary)
Great post! I’m not even a car enthusiast, per se, so I was shocked when I first watched Top Gear and found it genuinely entertaining. I think maybe my favorite stunt was the German on rollerskates with a jetpack racing a sportscar. Now that’s creative programming.
