Well, I'm a Spiritual Satanist. So yes, Dean. We do exist. And no, we're not all full of crap. I'm certainly not. In fact, my sect of Satanism doesn't believe in evil. What this means, in effect, is that we don't go around killing, hurting, or otherwise maiming people. Many of us are very peaceful, loving people. In fact, you probably could never distinguish us from Christians in a crowd. (Other than the fact that we wouldn't be handing out pamphlets and/or dishing out crap about how "You'd better join Jesus or he'll burn you forever!!")

In short, no, we're not "evil", and no, we don't believe in the Satan of the Bible. We believe in Satan as the supreme entity. We don't believe in the Christian god at all.

Hope this cleared things up for you somewhat. If not, oh well... 3 minutes of my life, I'll never notice.

Well, there really are satanists. I had one for a roommate. Thought he was full of crap, but then, maybe he wasn't, so let the law authority do their job. Anyone that brags about rape and murder needs investigated. His numerous knife and bullet scars show he wasn't such a nice guy, maybe there's something to it. Talked with the FBI about him.

I remember that whole thing. I was in high school in the late 80's, and that book was popular amongst the school's born again crowd. I read Warnke's book and Rebecca Brown's book at the insistence of one of my born again friends, and thought it was all rubbish. After that, I started wearing a pentagram to school to freak people out. I can't help but laugh at stupid people.

Wonderful article. The American Satanic Panic was frightening in its heyday, but I find it even more frightening that today there are still people who believe these absurd testimonials despite the mountains of debunking that have come from everywhere from the psychological profession to the FBI.

If these people are so secure in their faith, why invent bogeymen and, worse, accuse innocent people of being those bogeymen? Leaving law-abiding Satanists in peace is just good manners and the mark of a grown-up. It doesn't imply you secretly agree with them.
