oh my, what lovely genes you have
Our ability to view and understand art, is an essential part of being human and as long as there has been art, artists have risen to the challenge to create new ways to stir our emotions and to expand our minds. One of the latest art projects out there is something unique and very, very personal to the works’ owners: their sequenced genomes.
Here’s how it works. After contacting companies like DNA Art or DNA 11, you receive a sample kit. Swab the inside of your cheek, seal the kit and send it back. Then, your DNA is sequenced in a lab and the image it leaves in the gel is photographed and touched-up for artistic highlights. UK based DNA Art says that it even goes the extra mile to find the 0.01% of the genetic material unique to you and the image to be framed on your wall isn’t just that of a specific human DNA, but the genes that make you who you are. Talk about getting ready for your close-up…
What do you think? For about $400, would you want to send your DNA to an art lab and frame the results of their work on your wall?
