so that’s where the editors went…

Finally, there's an explanation for the Huffington Post's sudden explosion of pseudoscientific screeds.

newspaper on fire

A few days ago, I wrote about the preponderance of pseudoscience at the Huffington Post ranging from Jim Carrey’s anti-vaccine rant to New Age nonsense, asking why the editors were asleep at the wheel. As it turns out, the editor in charge of the health and wellness section of HuffPo was exactly where she was supposed to be, it’s just that she truly believes the junk being posted

Patricia Fitzgerald is a licensed acupuncturist, certified clinical nutritionist, and a homeopath. She has a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and a PhD in Homeopathic Medicine.

Well, there’s your problem. When you’re writing woo and the editor who’s job is to make sure your work is up to par claims to have a doctorate in the same kind of woo, no wonder the pages of the publication will quickly fill up with nonsense. Of course putting a homeopath in charge of the health and wellness section of your site is like hiring a creationist who write your evolution columns and a grave disservice to readers, but that’s a choice that Huffington and her staff made nevertheless.

Hail Mary was a badly mismanaged, rushed death trap driven by groupthink and politics, and Ryland Grace was right to balk at the idea.
