why i’m not going to the creation museum

I'm not going to the Creation Museum for pretty much the same reason I wash my hands after using a public restroom.

If you had a look at my bio, you may have noticed that I live in Columbus, OH where PZ Myers and a swarm of 201 atheists and secularists are gathering before they invade that infamous testament to Ken Ham’s ignorance and arrogance: The Creation Museum. And interestingly enough, PZ is savoring the opportunity to rummage through this so called museum…

This is going to be great — be sure to wear some kind of distinguishingly godless clothing, because I think we’ll want a few photos of the place swamped with atheists. Just the numbers alone are going to make this a great event. Join the mob!

You might be thinking that since I’m a skeptic and dished out my fair share of refutations to creationist propaganda (along with some necessary verbal abuse), I would take this chance to rummage through the museum and write about my shocking face to face encounters with Ham and his ignoramuses. But actually, I’m going to pass. Meeting the crowd that in spite of all the evidence that the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, that dinosaurs vent extinct some 63 million years before the first hominids appeared and that the Bible is just a collection of religious punditry from the Classical World, insists they’ve been able to disprove almost all modern science, is not my idea of fun.

I know, I make a terrible masochist. But I’ve met enough living brick walls in my life to know that no matter what I say, no matter what proof I summon, the museum’s staff will just look at me with glass eyes and hem and haw something asinine in reply. This supposed showdown between atheists and creationists is going to end with both sides parting with the same exact opinions they had long before this encounter. The atheists are going to hold on to their views because their position is backed by mountains of solid evidence and the creationists are going to hold on to theirs because they’re afraid of sinning by doubting the word of a random televangelist holding the Bible and playing semantic games. And the funny thing is that both sides know it.
